چکیده

In this paper, a simple self-adaptive contention window adjustment algorithm for 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLAN) is proposed and analyzed. Numerical results show that the new algorithm outperforms the standard 802.11 window adjustment algorithm. Compared with the standard and previously proposed enhancement algorithms, a salient feature of our algorithm is that it performs well in both heavy and light contention cases regardless of the packet sizes and physical versions. Moreover, the adaptive window adjustment algorithm is simpler than previously proposed schemes in that no live measurement of the WLAN traffic activity is needed. Transmission priority scheme with adaptive backoff technique in fiber-wireless networks

This paper considers the realization of fiber-wireless (Fi-Wi) networks using the gigabits passive optical network (GPON) and the infrastructure-based wireless local area network (WLAN). The bottleneck of such hybrid system is the WLAN where interference limits the performance. As such, we focus on enhancing the WLAN performance by analytically deriving the optimum contention window (CW) sizes ...

Analysis of an Adaptive P-Persistent MAC Scheme for WLAN Providing Delay Fairness

The paper proposes and analyzes an adaptive p-persistentbased (APP) medium access control (MAC) scheme for IEEE 802.11 WLAN. The APP MAC scheme intends to support delay fairness for every station in each access, denoting small delay variance. It differentiates permission probabilities of transmission for stations which are incurred with various packet delays. This permission probability is desi...

Performance Improvement of 802.11 Wireless Access Network with TCP ACK Agent and Auto-Zoom Backoff Algorithm

This paper proposes two schemes to improve the TCP performance over 802.11 WLAN access protocol. In the standard 802.11 and TCP protocols, a TCP data segment is acknowledged twice, once at the MAC layer, and once at the TCP layer. By a simple cross-layer design, a TCP ACK agent is installed at the WLAN AP. When a MAC acknowledgment is received by the AP, the AP generates a TCP ACK on behalf of ...

Design and Performance Evaluation of an Asymptotically Optimal Backoff Algorithm for IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs

This paper presents and evaluates a distributed mechanism for the contention control in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs. Specifically, our mechanism named Asymptotically Optimal Backoff (AOB), dynamically adapts the backoff window size to the current load. AOB guarantees that an IEEE 802.11 WLAN asymptotically (i.e. for a large number of active stations) achieves its optimal channel utilization. The ...

A Geometric Distribution for Backoff Time in IEEE 802.11 DCF: An Analytical Study

Today’s networks, including WLANs, transport different classes of services. A service differentiation is then essential to provide QoS. However, IEEE 802.11 for WLANs was primarily designed for best effort traffic and did not provide QoS specifications. IEEE 802.11e MAC has been then described to support QoS in WLAN. In this paper, we propose a new scheme for service differentiation which is ba...
